Peter Formanek earns Wilderness First Aid certification
Completed through the University of New Mexico’s International Mountain Medicine Center, part of the UNM School of Medicine

MAMARONECK, N.Y., April 21, 2026 — Peter Formanek, Founder and Managing Partner of Young America Capital, has earned Wilderness First Aid certification through the University of New Mexico’s International Mountain Medicine Center, one of the most respected wilderness medicine programs in the country.
The course is taught through UNM’s Department of Emergency Medicine. To certify, candidates have to pass both a written evaluation and a hands-on skills evaluation. The training covers how to assess and treat injuries and medical emergencies in remote settings, where conventional emergency response may be hours away.
The certification connects to Peter’s work at Outdoor Innovation, the Mamaroneck venture studio he founded to design and field-test lightweight gear for the backcountry. Knowing what can go wrong on the trail, and how to respond when it does, shapes how that gear is built.
The International Mountain Medicine Center is based in Albuquerque and trains outdoor professionals, guide services, search-and-rescue teams and medical practitioners in wilderness emergency response.
